iIoTs, originally incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi under its technology incubator Catalyst, has evolved into a high-impact innovation initiative now incubated at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. The team is at the forefront of developing a patented, low-cost landslide sensing and early warning system designed to safeguard vulnerable regions. With strong on-ground execution, iIoTs has successfully deployed landslide monitoring and warning systems across 10 high-risk locations in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, demonstrating both technological reliability and real-world impact.
The system has already saved lives and infrastructure in the current monsoon season at the famous Kotropi landslide, where the system sounded an alarm just before a flash flood. Police heard the signal and stopped road traffic minutes before the disaster struck.
